Differences between JHMT grinding steel balls and cast balls

Different raw materials: Grinding steel balls from JHMT are made from high carbon round steel bars. These bars are produced through hot-rolled process and extruded from billets more than 10 times the volume of bars in special steel plants.; Cast balls are made from scraps with a certain percentage of alloying elements.

Different principles of improving the steel ball hardness: JHMT steel balls achieve a high level hardness through special heat treatment processes. The transformation of austenite to martensite makes metallographic structure quite dense, grain quite fine. And the hardness can reach 57-66HRC.; Cast balls are added by a certain percentage of alloying elements Cr to acquire certain hardness and wear?resistance. The higher the content of Cr, the better the hardness and wear resistance of the cast balls, but also increase the material cost of the balls.

Different impact toughness and breakage resistance: JHMT steel balls are high-density with impact toughness greater than or equal to 7J/cm2. As the operation of falling ball test reaches greater than or equal to 20,000 times, the actual breakage can be lowered to 0.5‰.; Cast balls can be found gas hole and sand inclusion inside with impact toughness less than or equal to 4J/cm2. The operation of falling ball test is failed to carry out due to a high breakage more than 3%.

Production advantages: JHMT balls adopts round steel bars and the quality can be uniform due to the entire production process has achieved automated assembly line. Meanwhile temperature, velocity and other processing parameters are tracked and controlled by computers to ensure even and stable quality. These bars are hot-rolled and extruded from billets through rollers. Therefore, the density of hot-rolled balls exceeds 7.8g/cm3 with high grinding efficiency.; Cast balls adopts traditional sand casting process and it’s hard to avoid gas hole and sand inclusion appearing in the interior and on the surface of balls. In addition, it will cause casting waste edge. Compared with hot-rolled steel balls, the density of cast balls can only reach to 7.45g/cm3 with low grinding efficiency. Taking Steel scrap as raw materials, cast balls are heterogeneous with unstable quality. More, the proportioning and casting rate are greatly affected by human factors.
